CEU Course:  Pregnancy Massage

 
An Introduction to pregnancy and post partum massage for practicing massage therapists

Time: 12 Hours

 

Objectives: 

 

·   Recognize stages of pregnancy

·   Understand common discomforts during stages of pregnancy

·    Recognize massage cautions and contraindications during pregnancy.

·    Understand the procedure of client consultation and referral if needed.

·    Know how to position client throughout stages of pregnancy.

·    Use pregnancy massage body cushions that can assist with client comfort.

·    Perform a one hour pregnancy massage with safety and confidence.

·    Understand precaution and contraindications during the post partum stage.

·   Recognize common discomforts during the post partum stage.

·    Know how to perform a post partum massage with safety and confidence.

 

Class Format:

4 hours presentation and discussion

6 hours demonstration and guided practice

2 hours review and evaluation




CEU Course: Aromatherapy I

 

 An introduction to aromatherapy, its uses and benefits.

                                                                                                                                 Time:   Time:  6 hours

Objectives:

  • ·         Recognizes the role of growers and suppliers in maintaining quality control of aromatic extracts.

    ·         Has an overall view of the current status and role of Aromatherapy in the United States and other countries

  • Understands the formation of oils in plant tissue, methods of extraction and basic chemical principles in brief

    ·         Knows the routes of absorption of aromatic essences into the body and how oils interact on physical/emotional levels.

    ·         Understands the nature, scope and limitations of Aromatherapy and the necessity for referral procedures.

    ·         Understands the need for taking a holistic approach to client consultation.

    ·         Understands the therapeutic application of six essential oils

    ·         Knows the contra indications to the six essential oils.

    ·         Knows which essential oils are generally not recommended for use.

    ·         Understands the need for correct handling, storage, and hygienic and safe practices when using essential oils.

    ·         Is familiar with a variety of carrier oils and their properties.

    ·         Understands common conditions that may be treated with the six essential oils.


CEU Course: Aromatherapy II

 

 An intermediate course and workshop

                                                                                                                                 Time:   Time:  6 hours

Objectives:

·         Understands the relationship between the chemical constituents and polarity of individual essential oils

·         Recognizes the importance of using a holistic approach to blending essential oils.

·         Takes each objective a stage further, thus deepening the therapist’s knowledge and understanding of principles covered in Part I, such as aromachemistry and plant energy.

·         Knows how to make Aromatherapy blends for specific conditions.

·         Understands principles of energy in Chinese Medicine and relates it to the use of aromatherapy.

·         Recognizes conditions commonly presented and how they may be treated with Aromatherapy.

·         Understands the therapeutic application of twelve more essential oils.

·         Is able to create aromatherapy blends for therapeutic treatments using various forms of base products, such oils, lotions, creams and gels.

·         Understands the quantities of essential oil and carrier products required to make a safe blend depending upon area of application.

·         Demonstrates consultation skills.

·         Is able to prescribe blends for specific conditions based on consultation.


CEU Course: Reflexology

An introduction to reflexology for licensed massage therapists, nail technicians, estheticians, and cosmetologists

Time: 12 hours

 

Aims:  To enable massage therapists to optimize their clients wellbeing by using reflexology techniques safely and effectively

 

Objectives:

  • Is familiar with the major historical developments in reflexology.
  • Knows the current status of reflexology in the U.S. and other countries.
  • Understands the relationship between zones of the feet and corresponding zones of the body.
  • Identifies the location of reflexes on the feet and relates to body parts which they target.
  • Knows simple disorders and diseases of the feet which may preclude treatment.
  • Knows other professionals who could treat such disorders for referral.
  • Understands that reflexology is not a diagnostic procedure and must never be used as such.
  • Knows the consultation procedure and can explain the treatment in lay terms.
  • Understands that  callouses, hard skin and deposits in the feet can indicate conditions in other parts of the body and vice versa.
  • Can demonstrate exercises which will improve mobility and general health of the feet.
  • Is familiar with preparation and draping procedures before and during a reflexology treatment.
  • Knows the principles behind all the techniques commonly used in a reflexology treatment.
  • Displays dexterity and sensitivity in providing reflexology to the feet.
